Hey. Hi. Hello.

πŸ‘‹πŸ»

I mostly post on Mastodon nowadays: wandering.shop/@aleen

Hello! I’ve been posting on Mastodon more and more lately, if you want to follow me there.

Just finished The Rose Code by Kate Quinn. Set in Bletchley Park, the novel follows three young women working through World War IIβ€”and as they try to catch a spy.

Loved it!

πŸ“š I’ve really been into Ursula Vernon (as T. Kingfisher) lately, especially the books that take place in The World of the White Rat. Chronologically, it starts with Clockwork boys & The Wonder Engine, which I loved.

πŸ“š I finished Keeper of Enchanted Rooms today. The mystery of an enchanted house + a power-hungry magician + a sprinkle of romance = β˜… β˜… β˜… β˜… β˜†

I haven’t talked about books here in a while; gonna try to remember to do that more. I read a lot and I’ve really been into what I think of as β€œcozy fantasy” in 2022.

My brain can’t handle high-stakes intergalactic battles when I’m this stressed.

J: NO!!! Change your face!

A: I’m just listening to you.

J: Your face tells a story and I don’t like it!

I wrote a non-micro blog post! Maybe I’ll make this a habit.

Decided to give Glass a shot but it’s intimidating as a social media platform. Early adopters are all such great photographers, usually pros, whereas I’m like, “Here’s a thing I’m knitting. It’s mostly in focus and poorly staged.”

Two largeish trianglular purple knitted things on a bed, points facing one anither.

When @jean suggests cat photos are needed, you post cat photos.

Squeaky, age 1.75, is not past the (attempted) LEGO eating stage of his development.

a black cat sits in the basground, behind a clear tray of loos LEGO and a partialky-built Brick Headz figure.

I now own a literal carpet bag. Living bookish kid Aleen’s dreams, one purchase at a time.

This is what happens when I go to Elliott Bay Book Company with a full loyalty card and no adult supervision.

A navy blue A5 Zequenz notebook and a game called The Storymatic.

hello, micro.blog πŸ’œ

I’m re-reading The Golem and the Jinni in anticipation of its sequel’s release on June 8. I think this is my fourth time through and it’s just as magical now as it was the first time I read it.

kitten + old lady cat

Two cats on a bed one, a calico, lays ona human's blanket covered legs. The other, a black adolescent cat, lays stretched out perpendicular to the other cat. They're close but not touching

My 2020 in a nutshell: * learned how to knit (thanks to @jean and others) * moved to a bigger apartment * dealt with debilitating chronic illness and chronic pain * adopted a third cat πŸ™ˆ * spent three months entirely alone

How are you educating yourself about racism where you live?

I wonder what 10-year-old me would have thought if she’d been told that, in the future, sometimes she’d have to stop reading because her book’s battery was dead.
